OPHcrack is a free, open-source tool that uses rainbow tables to crack LM and NTLM hashes. Windows 7 stores passwords as hashes in the SAM (Security Account Manager) file. OPHcrack compares those hashes against precomputed tables.
Unlike Windows 10/11 which uses Microsoft account recovery, Windows 7 allows a physical USB password reset disk. This is the only guaranteed built-in way to reset a forgotten password without data loss.

Solution: You may have a different system drive letter. In the repair command prompt, use diskpart then list volume to find which letter Windows assigned to your main drive (often it's D: when booting from repair media).
