Introduction to Surah Al-Kahf
Surah Al-Kahf, also known as the Cave, is the 18th chapter (surah) of the Quran, the holy book of Islam. It consists of 110 verses (āyāt) and is a Meccan surah, meaning it was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) while he was in Mecca.
Verses 1-10: The Praise of Allah and the Story of the People of the Cave
The surah begins with the praise of Allah, the Most Merciful and the Most Wise. The first verse says:
"Alhamdu lillahhi rabbil 'alamina * Al-Rahmanir-Rahimi * Maliki yawmid-din * Iyyaka na'budu wa iyyaka nasta'in" (1-3)
"All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds * The Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate * The King of the Day of Judgment * You alone do we worship, and You alone do we ask for help."
The next few verses (4-7) talk about the guidance of Allah and the distinction between the righteous and the wicked.
The story of the People of the Cave (Ashab al-Kahf) begins in verse 9:
"Or have you thought that the inhabitants of the Cave and the Inscription were among our signs?" (9) Surah Al Kahfi 1-10 Dan 100-110 Pdf
The story tells of a group of young believers who took refuge in a cave to escape persecution and protect their faith. Allah blessed them with a long sleep, and when they awoke, they found that the world had changed.
Verses 100-110: The Story of Dhul-Qarnayn and the Descendants of Israel
The latter part of the surah (verses 100-110) tells the story of Dhul-Qarnayn (the Two-Horned One), a righteous ruler who traveled to the ends of the earth, spreading justice and righteousness. He was given wisdom and knowledge by Allah, and he used these gifts to benefit humanity.
The story serves as a reminder of the importance of being just and fair in all dealings, as well as the need to acknowledge and worship one God.
The final verse (110) says:
"Indeed, this is a reminder, so let whoever wills, take a path to his Lord." (110)
This verse emphasizes that the Quran is a reminder and a guidance for those who seek to follow the path of righteousness.
