Even when you reach Step 3, issues can arise. Here are the most frequent problems users face when entering their Confirmation Code in Office 2007.

Office 2007 is old. Microsoft officially ended support for it years ago. Because of this, the online automatic activation servers for Office 2007 no longer work.

When the online activation fails (usually silently), Office defaults to the backup method: Phone Activation. That "Confirmation Code" is the 8-block numeric code that the automated phone system gives you after you read off your Installation ID.

You cannot buy or download a "Confirmation Code." It is generated live by Microsoft’s servers (or whats left of them) based on your specific computer hardware.

Not easily. Once activated, Office 2007 does not display the Confirmation Code again. However, some third-party license recovery tools can read the activation data from the registry. A better approach is to keep a written copy during the activation process.

After you provide the Installation ID to Microsoft’s automated phone system, the system will verify it and, if valid, return a Confirmation Code (also known as a CID or Confirmation ID). The system will read this code to you. You then return to the Activation Wizard on your computer, where you see a box labeled "Step 3: Enter your confirmation code here."

This is the most critical step. You must type the Confirmation Code exactly as provided by the phone system. The code is typically divided into blocks (e.g., 6-7 digits per block). Once entered correctly, you can click Next or Activate to finalize the process.
