Some malicious actors use the StartCrack brand to deploy ransomware (e.g., STOP/DJVU or Dharma). The file is “verified” as working by shill accounts. Once executed, it encrypts all documents, photos, and databases, demanding $500–$5,000 in Bitcoin. Because you obtained the software illegally, you cannot report the crime or recover your files without paying.

In legitimate e-commerce, “verified” means a buyer has confirmed receipt of goods or an identity has been authenticated. In the crack scene, "verified" carries three possible meanings: startcrack verified

A “verified” crack may simply add your machine to a botnet (e.g., Mirai or Emotet). Your computer quietly becomes part of a DDoS army or spam relay. You will notice nothing except perhaps higher CPU usage and network lag. Your ISP may eventually blacklist your IP. Some malicious actors use the StartCrack brand to
