Sleeping Dogs Widescreen Fix Direct

You can manually edit the HKShip.exe executable to unlock the FOV, but it is risky. Steam updates can break it, and anti-cheat (for the defunct multiplayer mods) may flag it. Skip this method unless you are a veteran modder.

There are open-world games, and then there is Sleeping Dogs. A decade later, Wei Shen’s undercover trip through the mean streets of Hong Kong remains a masterpiece of martial arts combat, gritty storytelling, and atmospheric driving.

But if you recently tried to replay this classic on a modern gaming monitor—especially an ultra-wide (21:9) or super-wide (32:9) display—you probably ran into a problem. The camera is cropped, the UI is stretched, or you’re stuck with annoying black bars on the sides.

Don't worry. We’re going to fix that.

Note: This guide is for the original Sleeping Dogs (often called the "PC Edition"). The "Definitive Edition" has slightly better native support, but still struggles with 32:9 ratios.

Sleeping Dogs launched in 2012. Back then, 16:9 was the king, and 21:9 was a futuristic dream. If you force the game to run at 3440x1440 or 5120x1440 without a fix, you get one of two things:

Note: This works for both the original and Definitive Edition.

  • Place Files: Drop dinput8.dll and the .asi + .ini files into the same folder as SDHDShip.exe (Definitive Edition) or HKShip.exe (Original).
  • Configure (Critical): Open the .ini file in Notepad. Adjust these values:
    [MAIN]
    ; Set your monitor's aspect ratio (e.g., 2.333 for 21:9, 3.555 for 32:9)
    fAspect = 2.333

; Custom FOV (default in-game is ~65. Try 85-95 for ultrawide) fFOV = 90.0 sleeping dogs widescreen fix

; Reposition HUD margins (default is 16:9 boundaries) bHudFix = true

  • The community has created a fix that forces the game to render the correct aspect ratio for your monitor. This involves installing a specific version of ThirteenAG's Widescreen Fix.

Sleeping Dogs (2012) remains an open-world classic, but its PC port carries a relic of the early 2010s: horrible out-of-the-box support for ultrawide (21:9) and super-widescreen (32:9) monitors. Even on standard 16:9 displays, the game’s Field of View (FOV) can feel claustrophobic. You can manually edit the HKShip

While the game technically renders at high resolutions, it does so by Vert- scaling (vertical minus). This means:

Here is the definitive fix to unlock true widescreen.

Head over to the ThirteenAG GitHub repository or the PCGamingWiki page for Sleeping Dogs. Look for the Silent's WidescreenFix or the Ultrawide UI Fix. (I’ve linked the source in the description below).

    | Aspect Ratio | Vanilla Behavior | Result | | :--- | :--- | :--- | | 16:9 (Standard) | Native support, but FOV is locked to ~65°. | Feels zoomed-in, especially in vehicles. | | 21:9 (Ultrawide) | Vert- crop. | You see less than a 16:9 user. Side HUD elements clip off-screen. | | 32:9 (Super Ultrawide) | Extreme Vert- crop + horrendous stretching. | Unplayable without a fix.
