Common Mistakes to Avoid

By following this guide, you'll be well on your way to rising to the top of the corrupt politician hierarchy in "Rise of Corruption." Good luck!

This guide outlines the most efficient path through Rise of Corruption, focusing on key story triggers, character progression, and navigating the game’s early-to-mid-game hurdles. 1. The Opening: Establishing Your Base

The game begins with your character arriving in the city. Your immediate priority is income and energy.

The Apartment: Interact with your computer and bed. This is where you save and recover stats.

The Job: Head to the local office or cafe (depending on your chosen path) to start earning cash. You’ll need roughly $500 for the first major story items. 2. Building Relationships (The "Rise" Phase)

Corruption in this game is tied to your influence over the main NPCs.

Maya/The Assistant: Focus on her first. Consistently talk to her at work. Choose dialogue options that lean toward "Ambition" rather than "Compliance."

The Boss: To trigger the "Corruption" arc with the CEO, you must complete three flawless work assignments. This unlocks the "Late Night Overtime" event. rise of corruption walkthrough

The City Map: Once you unlock the map, visit the Gym and the Library. Boosting your "Physical" and "Intelligence" stats is mandatory for passing later skill checks in conversations. 3. The Corruption Mechanics

The game uses a hidden "Corruption Meter" for each character. To increase it:

Blackmail/Leverage: Look for "Interactable Items" in other characters' rooms (like the phone in Maya’s office). Finding evidence allows you to bypass standard friendship grinds.

Gifts: Use the Mall to buy items tailored to specific NPCs. A "Designer Handbag" or "Technical Gadget" can skip several days of dialogue. 4. Key Story Choke-Points

The Gala Event: This is the mid-game climax. You must have at least 15 "Influence" points. If you don't, you will get a "Game Over" or a "Soft Reset" where you lose your job.

The Investigation: Mid-way through, a detective will start questioning you. Do not lie unless your Intelligence stat is over 20. It is safer to "Deflect" or use your "Lawyer" contact if you unlocked them at the Bar. 5. Essential Tips for Success

Inventory Management: Always keep an "Energy Drink" in your bag. Some story events trigger back-to-back, and if your energy hits zero, you’ll faint and miss the event window.

Save Frequently: Rise of Corruption doesn't have a robust auto-save. Save before every major "Choice" dialogue (highlighted in red or gold).

Night Cycles: Don't just sleep immediately. The Bar and Nightclub locations often host unique NPCs that only appear between 22:00 and 02:00.

Objective: Eliminate the other four crime family heads in one night. “The Veridian Purge.” Tips and Tricks

You now have:

Plan the purge:

Target 1 – Bellini: Use The Nameless to shut down their security. Serena’s men storm the estate. You personally kill Don Bellini (scripted – no choice).

Target 2 – Marchetti: Elena feeds you false meeting coordinates. Marchetti walks into a warehouse full of Vance soldiers. He is captured and later drowned. (Elena is horrified but silent.)

Target 3 – Gallo: Mira Chen gets a tip (from you) that Gallo is holding a kidnapped child. She raids the location. In the chaos, you snipe Gallo from a rooftop. Mira sees a shadow but doesn’t identify you. She thanks “the anonymous tipster” on the news. +10 Irony.

Target 4 – Conti: The oldest and wisest don. He offers you a deal: half of Veridian, peace, and his daughter’s hand. This is a test.

Walkthrough choice: Torture, then kill. – You are now the most feared person in Veridian.

Objective: Maintain your cover while investigating the police task force assigned to the crime families.

Mandatory encounter: Detective Mira Chen arrests you during a routine sweep. She doesn’t recognize you (you’ve grown a beard, changed your voice). Interrogation scene.

Choices:

Walkthrough choice: Fake information – You name a minor Rossi drug den. Mira raids it that night. Elena Rossi (your ex) is furious but doesn’t know it was you yet. This creates a three-way tension: Serena is pleased, Mira is misled, and Elena is now hunting an informant.

Important: Visit Elena’s apartment later (disguised). You overhear her crying. Do NOT reveal yourself. Instead, leave an anonymous envelope with evidence of who framed you two years ago (this requires a Control check > 40 – if you’ve been following the guide, you’re at Control 35 by now, so you need a minor boost).

Boost Control: Go to the Black Market (Bazaar district). Buy “Blackmail file on city councilman” for $5,000. Use it to force a zoning change that benefits Serena. +10 Control.

Now Control is 45. Leave the envelope. Elena now has doubts about her current allies.

Exploration is usually rewarded in open-world games. In Rise of Corruption, exploration is a risk/reward calculation.

A fully corrupted system reinforces its own conditions:

Present your badge to the guard. Inside, the Governor will try to bribe you (500 gold). Take the bribe, but do not leave.

End of Act I Result: Confront Valerius. If you have the ledger and Grist’s testimony, he resigns. You are promoted. The Corruption timer (hidden stat) drops to 0.

Corruption is often portrayed as a sudden scandal or a moral failing of a few bad actors. In reality, corruption rises gradually, creeping through institutions like water through cracks in a dam. This essay provides a walkthrough of how corruption emerges from systemic vulnerabilities, entrenches itself through feedback loops, and eventually becomes normalized. Understanding this process is the first step toward designing effective countermeasures.
