Creating a single tiptoi magyarul book takes 12 to 18 months – far longer than a standard children’s book. The process reveals why.

2. Language localization – Direct translation fails. “In German, a tiptoi book might ask ‘Was macht der Bäcker?’ – factual,” explains Kovács. “Hungarian children expect narrativity. Our version asks: 'Mit süt a pék, amikor a kiflit sodorja?' – a mini-story embedded in a question.” Rhymes, tongue-twisters, and diminutives (kicsi kutya, kisbaba) are added because Hungarian preschoolers respond to them as intimacy markers.
3. Audio production – Each book contains 800–1,500 individual audio clips. For Hungarian, Cervus recorded at Tom-Tom Studio in Budapest with a fixed cast of six voice actors. “We avoid the ‘educational broadcast voice,’” says sound director Gábor Lantos. “The tiptoi pen should sound like a friendly nagymama or a playful older sibling, not a teacher. And we use dialects sparingly – one character speaks palóc dialect for humor, but 95% is standard Hungarian with clear articulation.”
4. Dot-coding & quality control – A technician places thousands of invisible codes onto the book’s digital layout. Then a child tester (aged 4–6) uses the pen on every single hotspot. “We had a fire truck page where kids tapped the ladder, the hose, the cab – but nobody tapped the siren button,” recalls Lantos. “So we added a glowing dot icon. Little design failures become big usability fixes.”
