Consider flashing TWRP (Team Win Recovery Project) for better backup options. This allows you to create full NANDroid backups before any risky modification.

Warning: Using “Format All + Download” wipes critical calibration data. Only use if nothing else works, and have a backup of NVRAM beforehand.
Your IMEI numbers are stored in the NVRAM partition. If this gets corrupted, your phone will not recognize any SIM card. Use MTK Droid Tools to back up NVRAM after the firmware fix. Insert SD, interrupt autoboot at U-Boot prompt
