Due to the 2007-2008 writers' strike, this is the shortest season (13 episodes), and it often gets a bad rap. But in hindsight, Season 3 is a brutal, lean machine. Michael and Lincoln are now in Sona—a terrifying prison in Panama where the inmates run the asylum and the guards only watch from the outside.

The twist? Lincoln is free, but Michael is trapped. The Company forces Michael to break out a mysterious criminal named Whistler. The tone is darker, dirtier, and more violent than Fox River.
