Motorola Evx-261 Programming Software

The Motorola EVX-261 is an excellent digital-ready analog radio (it does DMR? No, it does FDMA digital – Vertex Standard's proprietary digital mode, not DMR). While programming it is trickier than a Baofeng, the stability and audio quality are worth the learning curve.

The Golden Rule: Buy the official cable (or a high-quality FTDI cable) and request the official software CD. Don't rely on random free downloads—they are often riddled with malware or broken drivers.

The Motorola EVX-261 programming software (often referred to by its file nomenclature, CE152 or EVX-CEST) is a proprietary Windows-based application that allows users to read, configure, and write data to the EVX-261 radio. Unlike simply adjusting volume or channels via the physical knobs, this software provides deep access to the radio’s internal codeplug. motorola evx-261 programming software

A codeplug is the data structure containing all programmable settings, including:

Without this software, your $300+ radio functions as little more than a pre-programmed, single-use device.

Once your settings are configured, go back to the "Program" menu and select "Write to Radio." A progress bar will appear. Do not disconnect the cable or turn off the radio during this process. Once complete, the radio will typically emit a confirmation tone.

Software is useless without a proper cable. The EVX-261 uses a proprietary 2-pin connector (similar to Kenwood, but pinout differs for data). The Motorola EVX-261 is an excellent digital-ready analog

Driver Setup: If you buy a USB cable, install the driver before plugging it in. For FTDI cables, download the latest VCP drivers from ftdichip.com. After installation, check your COM port number in Windows Device Manager (under Ports).
