Why specifically 1.2.6_01 and not 1.2.6? minecraft alpha 1.2.6-01

The "_01" hotfix technically changed nothing about gameplay except stability. However, the timing of the hotfix created a unique cultural artifact.

Because the Beta announcement was imminent, most players stopped updating their servers. They locked their servers to "Alpha 1.2.6_01" as the final stable build. Consequently, this version inherited the bugs of 1.2.6: The Overworld only (no End, no Aether)

For the community, these weren't bugs. They were features of the Alpha dialect.

You might think nostalgia is the only reason to revisit Alpha 1.2.6_01. You would be wrong. For many modders and server admins, this version represents a "state of grace" before the feature creep. | Item | Recipe | |------|--------| | Torch
