Lost Lands 4 Food Chain Solution Patched < Plus × HOW-TO >

For those just arriving at the Forgotten Valley: In Lost Lands 4, you encounter a magical ecosystem simulator. You must place five creatures (Seed, Herbivore, Small Predator, Large Predator, and Apex) onto a totem to balance the energy flow.

The Original Logic:

The original solution was linear: simply stack them from bottom (Seed) to top (Apex). It took 10 seconds. But it was boring—and it turns out, it broke the internal math of the game's energy distribution system.

Most guides tell you to go top-to-bottom. Do the opposite. Place tokens starting from the bottom slot (closest to the ground/altar base). lost lands 4 food chain solution patched

  • Second Slot (Slot 2): Insert the Slug.
  • Third Slot (Slot 3): Insert the Lizard.
  • Top Slot (Slot 4): Insert the Bird.
  • Even with the solution, players are making three specific errors post-patch:

Build a chain from top predator down to producer:

    Eagle → Snake → Mouse → Insect → Plant

Each tile must be adjacent (touching sides, not diagonals) on the circular grid. For those just arriving at the Forgotten Valley:

According to patch notes hidden in the latest update (and confirmed by FIVE-BN support on their official Discord), the original "linear chain" allowed players to bypass a required resource gathering sequence.

The Bug: In versions prior to 1.2.4, solving the puzzle with the linear chain granted the player the "Apex Essence" before they had completed a side-quest involving the Hermit’s Cauldron. This caused a sequence break where players would progress, but later items (specifically the "Moonlit Herb") would never spawn.

The Patch: The developers have now hard-coded a non-linear requirement. You cannot simply put the largest at the top. You must now balance the net energy gain of the system, not just the food chain order. The original solution was linear: simply stack them

If you are playing Lost Lands 4 today (Steam, iOS, Android, or Nintendo Switch), follow this updated solution:

Once all four are placed, the puzzle will glow green and emit a chime. In the patched version, you will also see small arrows connecting the tokens:

If you see a red cross or a shaking animation, you have placed the Lizard below the Slug, or the Bird below the Lizard. Reset the puzzle by clicking the reset rune (bottom left corner) and try again.

Between 2020 and 2021, FIVE-BN rolled out a silent balance patch (version 1.2.1 for PC, and later for mobile ports). While patch notes only mentioned “general puzzle logic improvements,” players soon discovered that the Food Chain puzzle had been subtly reworked.
