Based on service bulletins and the ki 256 installation manual supplementary sheets, these are the top 5 mistakes:


⚠️ The KI 256 installation requires specific mounting orientation, connector pinout (often a 37-pin connector), and compatibility with specific compass systems and flight computers. Proper installation must be done by a certified avionics technician.

Note: The KI 256 is a real attitude indicator (part of the King KCS 55/55A compass system). This is a technically plausible excerpt, not an official manual.

Critical Warning from the Manual: Do not combine AC ground and DC ground. The KI 256 uses separate returns. Combining them creates ground loops that induce 400Hz noise into the syncro outputs, causing HSI oscillations.

WARNING: Do not lubricate any part of the instrument. Lubricants can damage the diaphragms and gyro bearings.

From the field: A common mistake is skipping the 3-minute warm-up. Doing so leads to false nulls and autopilot “porpoising.”
