The Unseen Bond

Part 2 picks up immediately after the cliffhanger of Part 1. The protagonist, who has been a "born friend" (pedaishi dost) to a jinn since childhood, now faces:

Pacing: Part 2 is noticeably faster than Part 1. It sacrifices some atmospheric dread for action sequences – jinn attacks, possessions, and midnight chases.

The air curdled. The candle flame turned green. And from the well rose a figure—not of smoke, but of polished obsidian. Seven feet tall. Eyes like molten gold.

“You dare summon a Marid, little mortal?”

“I dare because my friend is chained because of me. Take my memory. Take my years. But let him go.” Pacing: Part 2 is noticeably faster than Part 1

The Marid laughed—a sound like grinding mountains. “Bold. Foolish. Interesting.”

He circled Arhan. “I will make you a different offer. Not your memory. But a task.”

“What task?”

“There is a man in your city. He wears a black ring on his thumb. He made a pact with my rival, Ifrit Uzziel. Break that ring, and I free Zafar. Fail…” The Marid smiled. “And you forget Zafar ever existed. He becomes a stranger to you.”
