It is important to note that IMVU has two primary clients.

| /msg | /msg <username> <message> | Private message (PM) to a user, even if they are in another room. |
| /pm | Same as /msg | Alias for private message. |
| /reply | /reply <message> | Quickly reply to the last person who PMed you. |
| /r | /r <message> | Shorter alias for /reply. |

Commands are initiated by typing a forward slash / followed by a specific keyword and, in some cases, arguments.

Creator Keywords: Creators often list these triggers in the product description. Common examples include dance, sit, or pose.
