OEM transmissions are cast aluminum. A "New" GSM transmission starts as a solid block of billet 6061-T6 aluminum or nodular iron. Billet material has a uniform grain structure, meaning it twists less under load. When you launch an LS3 with slicks, a cast case flexes and blows the gear cluster apart. A billet GSM absorbs the hit.
