The Contract The story begins with a secret paramilitary organization within France, the OAS, furious over President Charles de Gaulle's decision to grant independence to Algeria. After several failed assassination attempts by the OAS leadership, they decide to hire a professional outsider—a British contract killer who demands a fee of $500,000 (a massive sum at the time). He accepts the job and chooses the codename "The Jackal." el dia del chacal pelisplus top
The Preparation The film is famous for its detailed depiction of the Jackal's preparations. He is a master of disguise and logistics. He steals passports to create false identities, commissions a custom-made sniper rifle small enough to hide inside a crutch, and acquires specialized ammunition. He travels across Europe, constantly changing his appearance and identity to avoid detection.
The Hunt Meanwhile, the French security services learn of the plot from a captured OAS member. They have a name—"Jackal"—but no face, no location, and no exact date. They assign their best detective, Claude Lebel, to find him. Lebel is a quiet, unassuming but brilliant investigator.
The tension of the film comes from the cat-and-mouse game. The Jackal is always one step ahead, slipping through police nets and killing anyone who gets too close to his identity. Lebel uses wiretaps and informants, slowly piecing together the Jackal's trail, realizing the target is President de Gaulle.
The Climax The climax takes place on Liberation Day (August 25) in Paris. The President is scheduled to present medals at a ceremony. The Jackal disguises himself as an elderly war veteran with a war medal and his sniper rifle hidden inside a crutch. He manages to infiltrate the crowd and takes up a position in a building overlooking the ceremony.
As the President steps forward, the Jackal takes aim. However, de Gaulle moves his head at the last second to kiss a recipient on the cheek, causing the bullet to miss by inches.
The Ending The Jackal attempts to escape but is cornered by Lebel in a hotel room. In a final standoff, the Jackal shoots at Lebel but his gun jams. Lebel kills him with a submachine gun. The film ends with the Jackal being buried in an unmarked grave, his true identity never revealed to the public. Edward Fox no necesita diálogos grandilocuentes
Edward Fox no necesita diálogos grandilocuentes.
