Dungeondraft 1.0.2.4 May 2026
Unlike SaaS products, Dungeondraft is a one-time purchase. You can download 1.0.2.4 and never update. Some users refuse to update because later versions changed the default behavior of the "water brush" or "path tool," tweaks they did not enjoy. Version 1.0.2.4 represents a "vanilla" experience that just works.
Based on user reports from the time:
| Issue | Workaround / Status | | --- | --- | | Occasional crash when exporting to Universal VTT format | Use PNG + manual alignment | | Custom lighting colors reset after reloading a map | Re-apply colors, or avoid using certain custom lights | | Linux/Wine users: missing fonts in UI | Install core Windows fonts via Winetricks | | Large asset packs (>2GB total) cause slow object browser | Reduce active packs or upgrade to 1.1.x+ later |
If you have just installed 1.0.2.4 and need a quick start guide: Dungeondraft 1.0.2.4
Cause: A known visual refresh glitch in 1.0.2.4. Fix: Toggle the "Show Walls" checkbox (the brick icon) off and on again. The walls will reappear without needing a restart.
Performance Drops
On larger maps (40x40+ grid), panning and zooming can stutter, especially with many objects or lights. This version improved memory usage but didn’t fully solve lag.
Limited Layer Management
You only get a few layers (ground, objects, walls, lights, etc.). For complex maps, you’ll miss custom layer groups and locking — something later updates addressed. Unlike SaaS products, Dungeondraft is a one-time purchase
Undo/Redo Can Be Frustrating
The undo stack is sometimes inconsistent, especially after editing wall points or terrain brushes. Losing 5 minutes of work because of a misclick is possible.
No Built-in Asset Manager
Custom asset packs (e.g., Forgotten Adventures, 2-Minute Tabletop) work, but you have to manually edit a custom_assets text file. No drag-and-drop or in-app importer in this version.
No Print/PDF Export
You can only export as PNG, JPG, or VTT files. If you want a print-ready PDF with scale bars, you’ll need external software. Based on user reports from the time: |
As of 2025, the answer depends on your needs:
That said, a significant portion of the Patreon cartographer community (such as Two Minute Tabletop and Forgotten Adventures) still test their assets against 1.0.2.4 to ensure backwards compatibility. It is the "Windows XP" of map-making tools—old, unglamorous, but rock-solid reliable.
Version 1.0.2.4 reads asset packs through a simple folder structure (/assets/). This version does not require the proprietary .dungeondraft_pack format that later versions mandate (though it supports it). This means you can drag and drop thousands of free assets from CartographyAssets.com without issue.
