This version refines the Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet/ATM. It resolves the infamous “PPP idle disconnect” issue that plagued earlier versions, where connections would drop after 20–30 minutes of inactivity.

Step 1: Hard reset the router.
Use a paperclip to press the reset button on the back for 15 seconds. Wait for the power LED to stop blinking.

Step 2: Assign a static IP to your computer.
Set your PC’s IP to 192.168.1.10, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.1.1. This prevents IP conflicts during the reboot cycle. dsl-2740u firmware version me-1.03

Step 3: Access the upgrade page.
Log into the web interface (again at 192.168.1.1). Go to Management > Upgrade Firmware.

Step 4: Upload the file.
Click "Browse," select the DSL-2740U_ME-1.03.bin file, and click "Upload." DO NOT close the browser, turn off power, or click anything else for at least 3 minutes. Use a paperclip to press the reset button

Step 5: Wait for reboot.
The router will automatically reboot. The power LED will flash for up to 2 minutes. Wait until it becomes solid.

Step 6: Reset to factory defaults.
Perform another hard reset (15-second button press). This clears any residual settings from the old firmware. Set your PC’s IP to 192

Step 7: Reconfigure from scratch.
Log back in and manually enter your ISP credentials, VPI/VCI (commonly 0/35 or 8/35 for ADSL), and any port forwarding rules.
