Even today, Final Showdown looks incredible. It runs on the Lindbergh arcade hardware, and the character modeling and lighting have a tactile quality that early PS4 games sometimes lacked. Sega released Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown in 2021 for PS4 (exclusive) and later Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. for PC (2024). These are remakes of Final Showdown using a new rendering engine (Dragon Engine), with rollback netcode and rebalanced mechanics. They are not identical—some animations, sound effects, and frame data differ slightly—but they include all characters and stages. If you want the Final Showdown experience online with a living player base, download Ultimate Showdown or R.E.V.O. instead. They are superior for competitive play.
