Once the router reboots, the status LEDs will tell you the story:
Connect your phone to the extended network. If you get an IP address (usually starting with 192.168.x.x) and can load a website, congratulations—you have successfully configured DIR-850L Repeater Mode.
This requires a physical connection to the DIR-850L via Ethernet cable.
Step 1: Reset the DIR-850L Use a paperclip to press the reset button on the bottom/rear for 10 seconds until the lights flash. This clears any old settings. dir 850l repeater mode
Step 2: Connect via Ethernet Plug your computer into LAN Port 1 (yellow/black) on the DIR-850L. Do not plug anything into the blue Internet port.
Step 3: Access the Web Interface
Open a browser and go to http://dlinkrouter.local or 192.168.0.1. Login. (Default username: admin, Password: blank or password).
Step 4: Launch the Setup Wizard Click on Settings -> Wireless -> Manual Wireless Connection Setup. Alternatively, look for "Internet Connection Type" or "Operation Mode." On the DIR-850L, it is often hidden inside the "Internet" tab.

Step 6: Scan for Networks The page will refresh. Now you will see a button labeled "Site Survey" or "Scan" . Click it. The DIR-850L will search for all nearby Wi-Fi networks. This is the most important step

Step 9: DHCP Settings Because the DIR-850L is no longer a router, you must disable its DHCP server (or let the wizard do it).
Step 10: Reboot The DIR-850L will reboot. Once the LED is solid green/white, unplug the Ethernet cable from your computer. The DIR-850L is now acting as a repeater.

Warning: The DIR-850L has two hardware revisions (A1, B1, B2, B3). Repeater Mode is stable, but speed loss is inevitable. A repeater cuts your bandwidth roughly in half because it uses the same radio to listen and talk.
