Dahua Password Reset By Serial Number Review

If your device says "Amcrest" or "Lorex," the password reset process changes slightly:

This is the most common working method for generic installations without email.

Tools needed:

  • Support generates a reset key using their internal tool + current UTC date.
  • You enter the reset key into the device’s “Reset Password” prompt.

    • Unofficial but widely used process (advanced users):

  • The tool computes the correct reset code.
  • Enter reset code into device and set new password.

    • Warning: Unofficial tools may be malware. Use at your own risk, preferably offline and on a disposable computer.

    Dahua provides a free utility called ConfigTool (for Windows) and a mobile app called DMSS (formerly gDMSS/iDMSS) for password resets.

    The tool will now generate an "Export File" (usually a .txt or .xml file) or a 24-character Security Code. Save this file to your desktop.

    Once you regain access, immediately:

    Dahua devices have a built-in security feature called the "Lock" or "Reset" function. If you enter an incorrect password multiple times (usually 5 times), the device locks you out for a specific duration. To bypass this without losing data, you can use the device's unique Serial Number to generate a temporary reset code.
