Curviloft Plugin Sketchup

This tool creates a surface over a network of crossing lines (a mesh of wires). It is essentially an automated "From Contours" tool but offers smoother interpolation and better topology management.

While Sandbox tools are good for simple grids, Curviloft excels at creating "blended" terrain. Need to smooth the transition between a flat lawn and a steep hillside? You draw the contour lines, and Curviloft creates the precise slope.

Draw a square on the ground floor. Draw a circle on the 10th floor. Draw a twisted pentagon on the 20th floor. Space them vertically by 10 meters. Select all three shapes and run Loft between Sections. Set it to "Cubic" and "Twist Correction: Auto." Curviloft will create a stunning, twisting skyscraper that morphs from square to circle to pentagon. curviloft plugin sketchup

Skinning is the black belt level of Curviloft. It works with a "bed" of intersecting curves. Think of it as a weaving machine: you have vertical curves (longitudinal) and horizontal curves (transversal). Skinning creates a surface that follows the intersection of both sets.

Curviloft is powerful, but it is sensitive to bad geometry. Here are the top three errors and fixes. This tool creates a surface over a network

Imagine a tensile fabric roof over a stadium or a folded plate timber roof. Using native tools, you would spend days tweaking edges. With Curviloft, you draw the top ridge line and the bottom eaves line; the plugin fills the gap with a smooth, triangulated surface.

Curviloft is not just a plugin; it is a fundamental extension for anyone who needs to move beyond orthogonal modeling in SketchUp. While it requires an initial investment in learning, the ability to create complex, smooth, and editable surfaces unlocks a new realm of design possibilities. Combined with Fredo6’s other tools, it makes SketchUp a serious contender for freeform modeling—traditionally the domain of Rhino or Blender. While Sandbox tools are good for simple grids,

Verdict: Essential for professional SketchUp users. Well worth the modest cost (donationware/paid license depending on version).
