Counter Strike 1.6 Digitalzone — V40

Without getting too technical, Counter-Strike went through various network protocols. The V40 release sat comfortably on Protocol 48, the final major update for the 1.6 era. This meant that if you were playing on a non-Steam server (which were abundant), you had the best possible connection stability and feature set available at the time.

V40 introduces modern and futuristic weapons alongside classic ones:

While retaining the classic Hostage Rescue (CS) and Bomb Defusal (DE), V40 introduces:

  • Knife Arena: Only knife combat with long-jump, high gravity, and arena-style maps.
  • Pistol Arena: Only pistol rounds with headshot-only options.
  • Gun Game (GG): Level up through weapons with each kill. Knife kill resets opponent’s level.
  • Bhop (Bunny Hop) Mode: Dedicated surf/bhop maps with auto-bhop and speedometer.
  • Climbing/Deathrun: Avoid traps as a runner or activate traps as a death.
