She held a Chudakkad-style ceremony for her youngest daughter—not shaving the head, but a symbolic trimming, followed by the same distribution of sweets, charity (sadaqah), and family photographs. “I told my husband, ‘If this ritual is about thanking Allah for a child’s life, then why only for sons?’”

The extended family was confused at first. Then, slowly, two other young mothers in the parivar followed suit. “We didn’t break tradition,” Fatima says. “We just reminded everyone who the tradition was actually for: the child. Any child.”
