Do not install licenses on individual instrument PCs. Set up a dedicated, rack-mounted license server (Windows Server 2019/2022). Configure all Chromeleon clients to point to \\LicenseServer\ThermoLicenses.
Unlike legacy software that uses a simple serial number, Chromeleon employs a hierarchical, feature-based licensing model. You are not just buying access to the software; you are buying a combination of instruments, concurrent users, and regulatory modules. You must bind the license to the hardware
Steps:
Navigate to: Start Menu > Thermo Fisher License Administrator > “Activate New License”. If you hit a specific error code, let
Best for: Restoring from a backup or migrating a license to a new PC without re-activation.
Step 1: Copy the license.lic file from the old PC (usually located in C:\ProgramData\Thermo\Chromeleon\License\).
Step 2: On the new PC, open License Administrator.
Step 3: Click "Install License File" > "Browse."
Step 4: Select the backup .lic file.
Step 5: Click "Install."
Warning: This only works if the hardware ID (MAC address/Disk Serial) of the new PC matches the old one. For node-locked licenses, you must deactivate first.
