The most famous and effective patch came from the Plutonium mod client (2016–2023). Plutonium rewrote memory allocation routines for BO2, completely eliminating the state pool error. It also added dedicated servers, FOV slider, and anti-cheat.
Status: Plutonium shut down its BO2 services in August 2023 following a DMCA notice from Activision. However, existing Plutonium installations that remain offline may still work, but multiplayer functionality is gone.
