Autofirma 1.7.2 90%

Madrid, Spain – The Spanish government’s technological body, Secretaría General de Administración Digital (SGAD), has rolled out version 1.7.2 of AutoFirma, the country’s flagship desktop application for electronic signatures. This maintenance update reinforces the software’s role as a critical tool for citizens and businesses interacting with public administrations.

AutoFirma allows users to sign documents (PDF, XML, etc.) using digital certificates stored on local hardware—such as the DNIe (Spanish electronic ID), cryptographic smart cards, or USB tokens—without needing a remote server.

Autofirma is an open-source Java application developed by the Spanish government (Ministerio de Hacienda y Función Pública) that allows users to sign electronic documents using recognized digital certificates (such as the DNIe, FNMT, or a corporate certificate). autofirma 1.7.2

Version 1.7.2 is a minor yet critical update from its predecessor (1.7.1). While it does not overhaul the interface, it focuses heavily on cross-platform stability and backend protocol updates. Released in late 2023 / early 2024 (depending on distribution channels), this version patches several security vulnerabilities and improves compatibility with newer operating systems, specifically Windows 11 and macOS Ventura/Sonoma.

AutoFirma is a desktop application required to digitally sign documents and perform identification procedures on Spanish government websites (such as the Tax Agency/AEAT, Social Security, or administrative portals). It acts as a bridge between your computer's operating system, your digital certificate, and the web browser. Note : AutoFirma 1

Versions in the 1.7 range were significant updates that focused heavily on compatibility with modern security standards and operating systems.

Previously hidden in CLI versions, 1.7.2 exposes CSV batch signing in the GUI. You can prepare a spreadsheet with document names and signature coordinates, and Autofirma will execute them sequentially. Secretaría General de Administración Digital (SGAD)

Note: AutoFirma 1.7.2 replaces the short-lived 1.7.1 release, which had a regression on Linux with Firefox certificate store integration.
